Rumor: Google to Launch Google Games with Zynga
Yahoo, MySpace, and Facebook has it. So why not Google?
Rumors has it that Google is allegedly partnering with Zynga – the creator of Farmville and Mafia Wars – to launch a gaming hub where you’ll be able to play social online games. With an investment of between 100 – 200 million dollars, details on this new hub (dubbed as “Google Games”) however are few. The best hint you’ll find about the rumor is the “Project Manager Leader” job post from the Google Games Division. The Project Manager Leader will develop a “games commerce product strategy” with the help of partnerships and in-house projects in one way or another.
The term “game commerce product” however implies that Google is planning in making money not just through ads but also through microtransactions. It’s quite feasible since small purchase of virtual goods within the games are common in today’s web-based games. It’s also possible that Google’s partnership with Zynga might involve Google Checkout – a PayPal-like online transaction tool that is similar with Facebook and Zynga’s Facebook Credits.
Another rumor is that Google is planning a user profile push that will challenge Facebook. Popular online games could also help to make a drive for adopting such network. It’s pretty easy to see why Google is interested in entering this space. But why would we want to play at Google’s portal instead of Facebook?
If there’s one thing that we can do, that is to stay updated and find out how Google is going to entice online gamers with this new offer.View Article Source »
