Steam Powered Mac Gaming in 2011

Mac users can now have their place in the gaming arena as 'Steam for Mac' makes its way on 2011. Thanks to Valve, publishers and developers alike can now write a game for Mac. Yes, w-r-i-t-e. Not just another gaming portal.
The Steam for Mac heats up the developer’s interest in launching games in Mac version. This is a good news for Steam users that uses Mac to buy games. But according to Valve, new Mac games won’t be released until next year. The company believes that 2011 marks the year of renaissance for Mac gaming.
Graphic performance is still an issue on Mac OS X though, so as the OpenGL coding for developers who are used to DirectX. The creator of Mac still have lots of work to do in order to support latest versions of OpenGL. Optimized graphic drivers will help Apple achieve performance equal to Windows. But Mac gamers shouldn’t expect a simultaneous release from other developer just yet. Because even with Steam for Mac as a distribution platform and OpenGL graphics provided by Valve, adding a Mac version for games already in development process for 2010 can ruin the schedule.
According to Jason Holtman, Valve’s director of business development, it is interesting to note that publishers and developers alike are thinking of writing a game for Mac. Though gaming is not one of Mac’s application, Valve’s effort to bring more developers to the platform is highly appreciated.
