This December: iOS 4.3 and Murdoch’s “The Daily”
Apple is focusing on launching iOS 4.3 by mid-December. It will bring not only bug fixes, but could be the update that brings app subscriptions and Rupert Murdoch’s iPad-only publication to millions of iOS devices.
With the release of iOS 4.2.1 already complete, Apple is reportedly focusing on launching iOS 4.3 by mid-December. According to some sources, the Cupertino-based company is set to unveil the iOS 4.3 by mid-December. But since the iOS 4.2 came out late, the upcoming mobile OS will be revealed likewise. Still, the release of iOS 4.3 is penciled for December 13 with a December 9 press event to announce the update. Apple doesn’t hold press events for simple iOS updates. Given that, Apple seems to be cooking something big for iOS 4.3.
If rumors were to believed, iOS 4.3 will not just bring bug fixes, but will most certainly hand in app subscriptions. That would give app developers and publishers the ability to charge for their regular application updates or editions. Does that mean the News Corp.’s The Daily is also coming with the iOS 4.3? Well, that remains to be seen.
Rumors has it that Apple and News Corp. are working on an iPad-only publication that will cost $0.99 per edition. Led by former New York Post managing editor Jesse Angelo, the publication already have 100 journalists working for the project. And albeit the upcoming iOS 4.3 and The Daily will arrive in late, Apple may be working overtime to ensure that it hits the December 9 mark.
