Kinect-Like Motion Controller for PCs on CES 2011

The release of a motion-sensing controller designed for PCs has been announced by . is the one who brought us the for Xbox 360. The company teamed up with Asus to create the device. The two comnies reating a dedicated online store for selling compatible apps.

According to BusinessWire: “PrimeSense, the leader in sensing and recognition technologies, and ASUS, a leading enterprise in the new digital era, announced today that PrimeSense Immersive Natural Interaction™ solutions will be embedded in , a next generation user interface device developed by ASUS to extend PC usage to the living room. is scheduled to be commercially available during Q2 2011 and released worldwide in phases.”

The controller is christened as “WAVI Xtion.” This will provide gesture controls for media center PCs. According to the company, the device will focus on control as opposed to the gaming focus of Kinect.

Just like Kinect you’ll be needing a bigger space for it to process your appendages properly. Asus is planning an “Xtion Online Store,” where developers will be able to sell apps designed for the WAVI Xtion.

There’s a demand for this controller even without ’s allegiance. Some homebased developer has adapted Kinect for PC.

The WAVI Xtion is scheduled for launch in February of this year. However, it will be officially introduced on this week. Stay tuned!
