The Consortium has spoken and the Samsung Galaxy S II heralds the arrival of the MHL.

We’re already impressed with the II as it is, but one tiny detail about ’s latest phone went under our noses during the Mobile World Congress that’s probably just as important as the next feature, and that’s the MHL port. The Samsung Galaxy S II is the first smartphone to ever have the said port which switches the phone into USB data or MHL audio/video modes. A special 5-wire micro-USB to cable is provided to let you send video and audio to displays. The MHL cable also allows you to charge your smartphones to -enabled televisions, although no television is capable of doing that yet, perhaps in Q2 of 2011.

The MHL project was first announced way back in 2008 with the approval of a consortium that is composed of , Samsung, , , and Sony.
