Latest Dark Souls Screenshots and Details Unveiled
Brave through the new obstacles in the upcoming sequel of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls.
Things are starting to heat up as more information about the much anticipated sequel Dark Souls has been unveiled on the Famitsu preview of the game via Flying Get column. There will be some new mechanics and features in Dark Souls that either resemble those from the prequel, Demon’s Souls, or completely deviate from it. There will be an iron body mechanic, summons, campfires, ladders, plus a sneak peak of what monstrosities will be unleased once the Dark Souls hit the shelves by the end of 2011.
In desperate, seemingly impossible to conquer situations, players have the option to transform their bodies into iron which make them seemingly impervious to damage. The only downside here is that the character’s speed significantly decreases.
Dark Souls offers players the option to summon NPCs which are similarly cursed like your character. In this example, a Black Iron Knight aids the hero by landing a devastating strike using his immense sword. Summoned NPCs will only be available for a limited time, so players should only use them in desperate situations.
Similar to the Final Fantasy series’ Tent system, Campfires are points which serve as your bases as you explore Dark Souls’ harsh terrains. Campfires are where players can restore their healths, and also serve as a place where players respawn should they die. This is also where you can refill your Est, which is some sort of recovery item. And although you can just use the campfire to recover, Est will most likely come in handy when you’re on the get-go.
Apparently they’re used to climb unreachable places/platforms, but enemies can climb up these as well. Should that happen, players are allowed to kick the enemies off the ladder.
Dark Souls will present a mix of the old and new when it comes to its monster enemy line-up with old favorites making a comeback and neophytes taking a shot at destroying all your dreams and aspirations of finishing the game.
