No DVDs or Blu-ray Discs for Wii U
Like its forerunners, Nintendo went with a proprietary 25GB format that seems as though it could accommodate Blu-ray discs and DVDs, but can’t.
According to Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, “The reason for that is we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.”
Nintendo probably wanted to keep the price down on the Wii U because of the relatively high price of the new controller. We’ll, probably gamers will be able to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs on the Wii U if they really want to. That is, if the hyperactive Wii hacking community of the past will be at leisure to do so.
Expect to find some kind of home brew software that can solve that problem shortly after the Wii U is released in the market.View Article Source »
