Adobe Unleashes Adobe Edge

Adobe rolls out for public preview its HTML5 web animations tool, the Adobe Edge!

Last Sunday, released a new tool called Edge. Aimed to coexist with , this new tool will enable creative professionals to design animated web content using , CSS and JavaScript. And as the web goes more mobile, this new web design tool will continue to solidify Adobe’s top player position in the modern web infrastructure.

However, the company doesn’t see this as their way of caving in with the Flash vs HTML5 battle, since both technologies are still used by today’s web designers and developers. As explained by Adobe’s Web Pro Segment Group Product Manager, :

“HTML5 is an opportunity for Adobe. That’s not to say there aren’t opportunities for Flash.”

Adobe Edge aims to provide the tools that will aid professionals to create web animations and – in the future – even simple games. But as of now, the software will focus on its core animation engine. Nevertheless, the company plans to add more HTML5 features like Canvas support, HTML5 Audio and Video tags, SVG graphics animation support and more in the coming days.

Adobe Edge for Mac and PC features an intuitive paneled user interface, fast startup time, and the familiar timeline feature at the bottom. Users can import existing HTML documents and graphic assets like SVG, PNG, JPG and GIF, then they can style it with CSS3. Adobe Edge will be available as a free download while in public preview period. On the other hand, the Adobe Edge 1.0 is expected to arrive next year.
