News Mash-Up: PlayStation 4 Release Date
News and rumors regarding PlayStation 4's launching date -- collated and revealed.
Although Sony’s current-generation PlayStation is yet grabbing the limelight at times, the manufacturer still continues to compete in the video game industry by launching new gaming consoles in the future. According to earlier reports, they have set their minds on planning and conceptualizing the anticipated PS successor, the PlayStation 4.
Since the PS4 issue has been leaked out, there are numerous rumors trying to reveal the console’s features, pricing, and release date. Unfortunately, until now, there are still no concrete and official reports regarding these details.
Thus, in order for you to become updated on this forthcoming device, GADG decided to mash-up the PlayStation 4 release date news that was disclosed since the day of its introduction.
July 2011 Update – A recent article from Digitimes claimed that a Taiwanese developer will be providing Sony with new components, which are reported to be used for the PlayStation4’s Kinect style motion sensor. It was also revealed that Foxxconn and Pegatron Technology, the two companies behind the PS3 production, will be asked to create the new parts for Sony. Furthermore, Digitimes reported that the production of PS4 will begin later this year with plans of launching over 20 million consoles by 2012.
E3 2011 Update – Eurogamer held an interview with SCEE boss, Andrew House, in which the Sony official delivered a statement that is likely to disappoint most gamers. He said: “From a Sony perspective, we’re very comfortable with PS3 and the way that market’s developing.” Meanwhile, although there are no PS4 announcements, the company was able to show off their upcoming handheld gaming device, now officially named as Playstation Vita.
May 2011 Update – Based on an article from Eurogamer, Sony was confirmed to be sending finances to an unknown research and development project for a “Future Platform”. E3 has announced that they’ve been receiving reports about such next-generation consoles from Nintendo and Microsoft, so let’s just hope that Sony has something big to announce too.
August 2010 Update – Sony’s Kaz Hirai provided a hint regarding the launching date of the PlayStation 4. “If you look at the history of the way we’ve managed our console business,” he said, “we always try to hit a 10-year life cycle.” So that might be concluded as a 2016 launch.
July 2010 Update – If you will notice, Sony releases a new console every after 6 years. They have launched the original PlayStation in 1994, followed by PS2 in 2000, and the third installment last 2006. With this fact in mind, one could presume that the PlayStation 4 will hit the market sometime in 2012. Way back at the Game Developer’s Conference in Germany, the Crytek CEO mentioned that they are seeking to “release their CryEngine 3 once with PS4, in 2012″, which means the company has already the plan of launching such a console in the future.
June 2010 Update – An interview with Gamespot at E3 2010 was held, in which Activision COO, Thomas Tippl, disclosed some vague information regarding the PS4’s future launching. He affirmed that it was unlikely for them to see a release within the next 2-3 years since they still have no information on any new consoles. Moreover, Tippl explained that after a new console has been conceptualized, it would take at least 2 years before it can be produced.
May 2007 Update – According to rumors spreading around the Web, Sony will be launching their next console, named PlayStation 4, in less than 18 months. The said device will have the same architecture as the PS3, but with a new drive bay and attachment area. Also, PS4 will have a built-in extensive software, which can be used to connect the system’s content into a TV or Hi Fi source. “As a matter of course, I have the vision of PlayStation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network,” former Sony chairman Ken Kutaragi announced.
