Top Three Anticipated FPS Games of 2011
GADG listed the top three First-person shooter games that are expected to hit the shelves this year.
For players of all shapes and sizes, perhaps the most thrilling type of game is the FPS or First-person Shooter games. This genre lets players experience a fast-paced, action play with emphasis on narrative, problem-solving and logic puzzles. FPS games basically require players to have strong weapons; most titles even need teamwork and good playing strategies.
Knowing that FPS games are one of the most enjoyable and action-filled video game genres, GADG decided to collect three of the anticipated first-person shooter titles that are slated to be released this year.
1. Resistance 3
Hitting the PlayStation 3 with highly upgraded weapons, the Resistance 3 is a science fiction first-person shooter video game that is developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is said to be the fourth installment in the Resistance series and the sequel to the Resistance: Fall of Man.
The Resistance 3 will have the same gameplay mechanics like its predecessors, but with little changes. The weapon wheel and health bar, which is ousted from Resistance 2, will be returning to the new title. The game has also included a bunch of new and old weapons: Bullseye, Magnum, Rossmore, Auger, Marksman and Carbine will be retained; while Mutator, Dead eye sniper rifle, and shrapnel grenade will be added on the game. Take note that these weapons are open for upgrades, they become more powerful when used continually.
Compared to other games in the series, the Resistance 3 is the only title that is capable of supporting 3D and Playstation Move, and is the first one to introduce the PSN PASS program. The game will be launched on September 6th.
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Slated to be released on November 8 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms, the MW3 is an FPS game that is currently under the development of Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. This will be the third title in the Modern Warfare series and the 8th installment for Call of Duty.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game is expected to run at 60 frames per second. According to its developer, Infinity Ward, they will be equipping the title with a new Survival Mode feature which allows two players to fight against endless waves of enemies — each level gets more and more difficult. Unlike the Call of Duty: World at War Nazi Zombies mode, enemies at MW3 will not arise in fixed locations. Instead, they will come from different positions based from the location of the protagonist.
Gamers are also entitled to earn cash, which can be used to purchase new weapons, upgrades and ammo.
RAGE is a first-person shooter game developed by id Software for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Scheduled for a release on September 13, RAGE depicts the story of a person who survived from a 2029 Apophis meteorite attack and found himself under an Ark — a world-wide movement which freezes and buries survivors under the ground, so they could rebuild the Earth once again.
Aside from shooting elements, this title also highlights some driving features too. Gamers are allowed to enhance their cars through items and upgrades that can be gained by completing various races. RAGE also has some role-playing game or RPG elements — the abilities of each weapon depend on the ammo type. Players could experience an array of action-filled side missions; customizable weapons will be available as well.
Moreover, the game will be adding some powerful mutants, which is said to be the main enemies of the protagonist.
