Razer Tiamat 7.1: The ‘World’s First’ Surround Sound Headset

Razer unleashed the "world's first" 7.1 surround sound headset - the Razer Tiamat 7.1 - during the Gamescom 2011 last Wednesday.

During the last Wednesday, peripheral manufacturer – – unveiled the “world’s first” discrete 7.1 surround sound gaming headset — the . According to the company, the headset comes with a total of ten discrete drivers — five in each ear cup. These drivers represent the seven surround sound channels and sub woofer.

As posted in a press : “The Razer Tiamat 7.1 also gives gamers maximum customizability of their audio experience adjustable on a sleek control unit. You can precisely fine-tune the volume of every audio channel, position, and bass depth, as well as conveniently toggle between the headset’s 7.1 surround sound mode, 2.0 stereo mode or external speakers as long as they are also hooked up to the unit, so you’ll have the right setup for your entertainment at all times.”

Together with the announcement, Razer also launched the “Experience the Power of 7 — with Razer Tiamat 7.1″ contest. Here, the participants must answer two questions related to the Razer Tiamat 7.1, invite seven friends via Facebook or Twitter, and “like” the product on Facebook.

The Razer Tiamat 7.1 is set for a Q4 2011 release, and will cost $179.99 (179.99 euro).

    Their last 7.1 headset was an overpriced price of crap. (I’m an owner). And they never mentioned that it was virtual surround. I would avoid razer headphones like the plague. Particually when they force you to use their crappy USB integrated sound card.

    My brother uses a logitec one plugged into an old creative sound blaster, which is miles ahead of mine in terms of 3d sound and sound quality.

      This may not be one to avoid as it does not use a usb sound card it has full 7.1 connections plus a usb for the controler and power.
