The Tablet Battle: Apple iPad 2 vs. T-Mobile G-Slate

GADG just provided a brief comparison of G-Slate and iPad 2's specifications. Which one will you take home?

The G-Slate from and ’s famous 2 are both high-end , jam-packing some competitive features and designs. However, apart from the fact that these two offers a great user experience, they still have few differences which will surely interest you. Take a look at GADG’s comparisons below and discover how the G-Slate and iPad 2 differs from each other.


Both tablets have their own screen sizes, which only means that they have dissimilar dimensions as well. The exact dimensions for Apple’s iPad 2 are 241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8 mm, while T-Mobile’s G-Slate gets 243 x 149.4 x 12.8 mm. If you would notice, the iPad 2 is more thinner than the G-Slate by almost 4mm. Although Apple’s creation has a larger screen, it is still crowned as the lightest tablet since it weighs 601 grams, compared to G-Slate’s 630 grams.

Winner: Apple iPad 2


In terms of the display, the two tablets have very little differences. The iPad 2 features a 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD screen with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. The G-Slate, on the other hand, comes with a much smaller screen of 8.9 inches, but with a higher pixel resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. T-Mobile’s tablet also supports HD 3D.

Winner: Tie


It is undeniable that T-Mobile’s G-Slate wins in this category. That is because the tablet has two 2 rear-facing cameras: One which is capable of recording Full HD videos, and another one that comes in 5 megapixel. It also features a 2MP front-facing camera for video calling. Meanwhile, Apple’s iPad 2 only has a VGA frontal camera, and a rear camera that could shoot videos at 720p.

Winner: T-Mobile G-Slate


Unlike the first-generation iPad, iPad 2 has been upgraded to a 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 processor, making it more faster and powerful; while the G-Slate runs on 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip with 3D graphics hardware accelerator. In terms of storage capacity, the iPad 2 seems to be the winner as it comes with 16GB, 32GB, and 32GB memory, whereas the G-Slate only has 32GB of storage space.

Winner: Apple iPad 2


Apple’s tablet takes pride in having its own iOS 4.3, which brings up new features such as an enhanced Safari browser, Personal Hotspot, and the iTunes Home Sharing. The G-Slate, on the other hand, is powered by and runs on the latest OS designed especially for tablets — the Honeycomb.

Winner: Tie


The G-Slate and iPad 2 both feature a Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, 3G connectivity, and HDMI ports. However, it is only the G-Slate that comes with a microUSB port and is able to support T-Mobile’s 4G network.

Winner: T-Mobile G-Slate

As far as the pricing is concerned, the current-generation iPad’s 16GB WiFi-only model is available for $499, while its 64GB WiFi + 3G version is retailed for $899. Meanwhile, the G-Slate can be purchased at the T-Mobile Stores for $529.99 (with 2 year contract) after a $100 mail-in rebate, and $749.99 (without contract).

Winner: Apple iPad 2

The two tablets are indeed very powerful and competitive, and perhaps choosing the best one is such a tough thing to do. Well, if you prefer to have better 3D and Full HD features, then you must go with T-Mobile’s G-Slate. But if you want more applications, a friendly UI, and a much affordable price, then you should opt for the iPad 2.
