Samsung Smart TV Gets Blinkbox Streaming Service

Samsung partners with Blinkbox to offer video-on-demand services for its Smart TV.

recently announced that , a video-on-demand service, with be joining the company’s other offerings for its web-based Smart TVs. These includes Lovefilm, Acetrax, BBC iPlayer and Box Office 365. will be available via download from Apps; so , Blu-ray player and home theater system owners will be able to access the service.

Blinkbox offers more than 9,000 streamed movies and TV shows on either free or paid basis. The latter will enable subscribers for an uninterrupted viewing. The video-on-demand service caters to wide market, providing foreign language movies, documentaries and new releases often available on the same day of its DVD launch. Initially, Blinkbox will be exclusively available to Samsung Smart TV — with an exemption to Sony PS3 owners.

According to , Samsung’s marketing director for TV at Samsung UK: “By adding more partners to our Samsung Apps store, we are opening the door to thousands of hours of top-quality entertainment for viewers. Our partnership with Blinkbox will ensure Smart TV users can quickly and easily view more of their favourite films, TV shows and movie trailers enhanced by the true-to-life picture quality and revolutionary product design of their Smart TV.”

Blinkbox Co-founder and CEO, Michael Cormish, said to TechRadar that Samsung’s Smart Hub is a perfect match for the video-on-demand service.

“Our partnership with Samsung will allow us to be available to more people than ever before as well as giving our existing users a richer more accessible viewing experience. Samsung Smart TVs have an intuitive interface and make watching TV online easy, fun and even more entertaining.”
