Mac OS X Lion to be released at the Mac App Store

Mac OS X 10.7 is already out, and Apple is planning to release the operating system’s upgrades through it new Mac App Store.

Apple is looking to switch its software distribution means by making use of its recently launched Mac App Store. Launched January 2011, the app store is the company’s venture to utilize the idea it has previously popularized through the iOS ecosystem to desktop applications.

According to AppleInsider, the Mac App Store – available to all users running the most recent version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard – will become the default method for obtaining updates for Lion. Users will then be able to upgrade instantly without the need for physical media by purchasing Lion through the Mac App Store.
