Get ready for the next big thing for smartphones: 2 GHz, dual-core smartphones, coming to you, from Samsung.

Only two years have passed, and Samsung, Korea’s largest electronics manufacturer, is getting ready to release a smartphone to match performance levels of a desktop PC. The phone will boast of a two gigahertz (Ghz) dual core CPU (core processing unit), which will give it data processing capacities of 4Ghz.

“We are planning to release a 2 GHz dual core CPU-equipped smartphone by next year. This product will have the data processing capacities of a regular PC,” said an Samsung official, according to South Korean search engine Daum.

According to Samsung, such processor speed will be able to draw a fine line between a smartphone and a full-fledged desktop PC when it comes to data processing power. An optimized smartphone equipped with 2Ghz dual core CPUs will match the performance level of desktop PCs when most PCs nowadays have 3~4 Ghz CPUs.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also reportedly considering individual sales of the CPU units for other smartphone manufacturers, as part of the company’s expansion projects.
