An alleged older MacBook Pro prototype with built-in 3G cellular data functionality made its appearance on eBay, indicating that the company looked into adding wireless data capabilities to its notebooks as early as 2007.
An alleged prototype of Apple MacBook Pro with built-in 3G cellular data functionality made its appearance on eBay. According to the auction, it is a one-of-a-kind pre-production prototype unit of the 2007 15-inch Santa Rosa MacBook Pro.
Its distinguishable features are the extendable cellular antenna at the top-right side of the display, and the SIM card slot beneath the memory cover. An evidence that the said notebook is an Apple prototype is its bright red circuit boards and the lack of EMC number. The laptop’s serial number is not available at the company’s online database either.
According to the seller, he was able to obtain the device through Craiglist. It was listed by a former Apple engineer who received the machine for “software development work.” The engineer was granted to keep the machine before he left, and told the seller that he was not able to use the cellular data functionality because it was not related to his work.Read the rest of the article »
Nokia's countdown on its Swedish N9 page hinted out the release of N9 smartphone on September.
Nokia’s Swedish N9 page started a countdown that gave away the timing for the MeeGo phone. The said smartphone was reportedly scheduled to arrive on September 23, which will be exactly 49 days as of Thursday. On previous months, several carriers said that the smartphone will be released in late September, but none of them has been confirmed by Nokia.
Its seems that N9 will not be released in other countries at the same time. Nokia sees Europe as one of its primary target, and suggested that it won’t likely make the N9 officially available in the US. With penta-band 3G, however, it fully supports AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, as well as most Canadian carriers.
The said countdown is considered a possible swan song for MeeGo, given the few phones planned and the switch to Windows Phone. It might be Nokia’s most advanced phone for some time with a unique button free, real multitasking interface, a 3.9-inch curved AMOLED screen, a very fast eight-megapixel camera, and Nokia’s first real NFC support in a smartphone. Versions will come with either 16GB or 64GB of storage.View Article Source »
Oh no! Apple accidentally leaked an image of iPod Touch with 3G capabilities.
Last Wednesday morning, iDownloadBlog noticed that Apple accidentally loaded a promo shot of an iPod Touch with 3G capabilities on the iTunes website. However, the image was immediately yanked off the iTunes website in North America, while the UK site still displays the accidental leak.
While the only thing missing in the image is the wireless carrier icon, it was followed by rumors that the next iPod Touch will have 3G capabilities. Furthermore, it was also speculated that Apple won’t release an iPod Nano, and would equip the iPod Touch with FaceTime and iMessage over 3G capabilities instead. That said, the rumored next-gen iPod Touch might require a data plan similar to iPad 2.
But since this is just a rumor, tech enthusiasts must take this as a grain of salt. Everything will remain as speculations, unless Apple officially announces the device in September.View Article Source »
