Galaxy Tab 8.9 Gets First Bite of Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Folks at XDA Developers have compiled a booting version of Android 4.03 for the Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Not long after Samsung confirmed its plans to roll-out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to other devices, some innovative folks from XDA forums have already tried it on their beloved Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Recent updates shows that the homebrew ICS build for Galaxy Tab 8.9 is now bootable and has its touch screen, auto-rotation feature, sound, Bluetooth, Wifi and Hardware acceleration (tested on Angry Birds) working.

Samsung Galaxy 8.9 finally surfaces in all its slim and Android Honeycomb glory.
If there’s anything the last CTIA indicated about Samsung, is that the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is semi-inevitable. And it looks like the tablet has gone from mock-up to reality, as Engadget spotted the Samsung device in Frankfurt, Germany over the weekend.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is just like what we wanted from a tablet, a cheaper and thinner iPad 2 clone. The tablet will be equipped with the famous/infamous Android Honeycomb OS, although no release date has yet been confirmed. But Samsung did promise that the tablet will make its way sometime this summer, let’s hope they’ll man up and stick to their word.
