Best Buy Prepares for Two iPhone 5 Launches

Two stages of iPhone 5 releases on Best Buy -- for real?

Best Buy prepares itself for the launch of iPhone 5 in two stages based from two leaked information on Sunday. One discovery from a staff memo shows that the retail company expects an iPhone 5 introduction soon, along with  an “October week 1 launch.” The same BGR instance also claimed that it expects a Sprint iPhone 5 release.

Other clues potentially put the said release later. Best Buy Mobile managers are due to talk about “upcoming big release dates” on October 10 and on October 21, receiving a new “Apple fixture.” The installation described to This Is My Next wasn’t attached to the iPhone by name, but it would unusually needed a manager to be available an hour earlier than usual for inventory — similar to what happened last year for the iPhone 4.

Both tips leave room for flexibility in the release, but it support the overall expectation of a mid-October launch with Sprint added as a third US carrier. Some room exists for other devices to show in October, such as expected iPod updates, but few are likely to get the same level of attention from retail staff.

BestBuy Sells TouchPad Despite of HP’s Decision

Written on August 22, 2011 by Lulu

BestBuy put their remaining HP TouchPad on sale despite of the company's decision to end all all hardware development and production of the said device.

BestBuy has reconsidered its position in selling the TouchPad again in US despite HP’s decision to shutter its webOS division, ending all hardware development and production. Instead of sending back unsold ToucPads to HP, BestBuy decided to put all the remaining units in their hands on sale.

While not all stores have stocks of HP’s TouchPad, those that do only have them on hand in limited numbers. It is also expected that it will quickly sell out of any remaining stocks on hand. BestBuy stores which have units in stock will be selling the 16GB Wi-Fi only model for $100, while the 32GB Wi-Fi model will be sold for $150. The stocks of the said device are limited to one unit per customer, while all the sales will be final with no exchange or refunds policy offered for any reason.

The expected rush for the remaining units represents an interesting scenario for HP. Questions are likely to be asked as to whether it exited the market too soon – given the renewed interest in the product – despite of support for it being severed beyond its 12 month warranty.

NVIDIA Goes Retail at Best Buy

Written on October 13, 2010 by Adam Eve

It seems that Nvidia is ready to take the plunge into selling its graphic cards directly to consumers. But they do not have plans to take it outside Best Buy stores in the US.

Nvidia’s video card plans to go retail, but can only take as far as Best Buy in the US. Surprising as it sounds, Nvidia is going up against its vendor partners in its home turf. The thinking behind this, is that the majority of computer enthusiasts in the US tends to buy from an online source. Otherwise, they go to Best Buy and pick up a box with a label that they are familiar with.

As most of us already know, Nvidia relies traditionally on add-in-board partners to build and support the actual device. But the Green Team seems to be taking the marketing initiative into their hands.
