Game Console Legend, Jerry Lawson, Dies at 70

Farewell to the man behind the cartridge. The video game industry owes you.

Gerald A. “Jerry” Lawson, one of the founding fathers of the video game industry, has passed away last Saturday morning for reasons yet to be specified, according to an announcement from Digital Press.

So who’s Jerry Lawson you ask? He was none other than the engineer of the Fairchild Channel F, the world’s very first cartridge-based game console. The console was launched back in August 1976 under the name Video Entertainment System (VES).
