Intel Snatches Up McAfee

"Intel wants to sell more chips, of course. That's what Intel does best. But increasingly, you cannot just sell a microprocessor. It's also making sure that Intel has the right solution that carries the chip into the design win. Just providing the chip alone is not enough anymore." - Shane Rau
Intel just announced today that they are purchasing McAfee for $ 7.68 billion. In short, the chip maker will become a security company as well. They are hoping that what the market needs now is a security offering, in addition to the electronics store that they are trying to push. With this move, Intel plans to enhance its mobile strategy. For some analysts, such action can definitely help Intel considering that smartphones doesn’t have the security focus a PC does. With some smartphone that definitely have as much bookmarks as their desktops, it can be a threat to some users. Of course, Intel wants to give more of the package to mobile devices.
