Apple, to Announce iPhone 5 on October 5

Written on September 19, 2011 by Adam Eve

Apple's iPhone 5 is said to be unveiled on October 5, with an official release a week after.

An alleged insider from Apple informed PocketGamer that the company will be conducting a press conference on October 5 — covering a new hardware. And albeit it is thought to include the iPhone 5 and a cheaper iPhone 4 version, it is also said that the company will a releasing a 3G-enabled iPod Touch.

It is then claimed that the iPhone 5 will be released a week after the big reveal, which is October 12. Apparently, the date is just a few days earlier with what Stephane Richard, CEO of French mobile carrier — Orange, recently announced the handset would be available. It is also alleged that the new handset will feature a slightly larger display and a slimmer chassis. The cheaper iPhone 4 is rumored to be available to the consumers as well.

While the rumors surrounding iPhone 5 suggested that it will be a totally different device, people won’t be able to know until it is revealed by Apple. That said, do you think October 5 makes sense for an iPhone 5 announcement?

Wanted: Another Missing iPhone Prototype

Written on September 01, 2011 by Adam Eve

Just like last year, Apple's iPhone prototype went missing. But this time, it was left in a bar in San Francisco's Mission District.

It seems that history has repeated itself, as CNET reported that an iPhone prototype went missing at the end of July.

The security team of the Cupertino-based company scrambled to search and recover the said device to avoid a replay of iPhone 4’s incident last year. It should be recalled that an advanced prototype of iPhone 4 went missing last year, and was found at the hands of Gizmodo. Meanwhile, the tech site is said to pay the finders $5,000 and subsequently published images of the device just before its official unveiling.

Apple tracked the latest iPhone prototype from a Cava 22 bar in San Francisco’s Mission District to a nearby house in Bernal Heights. The company reps contact the police, asking for help to recover the said device. The authority questioned and searched the house of a man in his early twenties. However, nothing was found despite the man admitting that he had been in Cava 22.

Apparently, Apple has not yet recovered the iPhone prototype and reported that it may have been sold on Craiglist for $200. However, the company and the listing site did not make any comment about the matter.

Two iPhone 4 will be hitching a ride to the outer space, as the NASA astronauts will use the mobile phone to study the Earth's exterior.

NASA’s astronauts will be bringing two iPhone 4 to the space station on their final shuttle mission, rather than inventing another gadget with the same application and usage. While on the space station, they will use the iPhone 4 to study radiation levels, orbital location and altitude, even in calibrating space station instruments.

Odyssey Space Research developed an application called SpaceLab for iOS, which will be installed on the two iPhones. The good news is this: You can also get the application even though you’re not an astronaut. You can buy it in the App Store for only 99 cents. For those people who dream to be an astronaut, it’s a must-buy application for them to start pretending that they’re in a shuttle exploring the Earth’s exterior.

Why the sudden price drop?

Just before an Apple event, the unthinkable happens. Walmart discounted the price of iPhone 4 to $147.

Techland writer Doug Aamoth received a message from Walmart’s PR company saying:

“Hi Doug,

Walmart today announced a price reduction on the iPhone 4 which will be available for $147 today, June 6 through June 30 at select stores.

These savings apply to both the AT&T and Verizon versions of the iPhone 4 in both black and white colors. Pricing requires a new two-year wireless and data agreement or qualified upgrade.

Please let us know if you are interested in covering this announcement. We look forward to hearing from you!

Best,
Claire”

The price on Walmart’s website has not been changed yet and iPhone still has the price tag of $197. Let’s just wait and see what the new move for Apple.
