Study: Students With iPad Perform Better in School

A study shows that iPad can help students to become more efficient on studying.

Abilene Christian University has been conducting extensive studies on the possible effects of mobile devices on student learning for more than three years. As the Apple launched the iPad, the said university made an initiative to hand-out iPhones and iPod Touches to incoming freshmen.

The university’s iPad-specific research result is noted by TUAW as uniformly positive after a preview of some data. The study found out that students who annotated text on their iPad scored 25% higher on questions regarding the information transfer than their paper-based peers. Researchers who tracked ACU’s first all-digital class noted that the iPad promotes “learning moments,” and helps helps the students to be more efficient with their time than before. Even graduate students in an online program responded with a 95% satisfaction rate to online iPad-based coursework.

Though the results show that iPad will be a great help in studying, the researchers still said that the device isn’t ideal for every educational challenge.

Apple has seen quick educational adoption of their tablet earlier this year. Georgia legislators unveiled that they were considering plans to get rid of conventional textbooks in schools and replace them with iPads. Schools from around the country, including New York and others, had started some programs to use iPad inside the classroom. Some public school system has seen gaining 50% to 60% in reading Math and Science in classrooms with the iPad, like in Chicago.

Apple's iPhone 5 is said to be unveiled on October 5, with an official release a week after.

An alleged insider from Apple informed PocketGamer that the company will be conducting a press conference on October 5 — covering a new hardware. And albeit it is thought to include the iPhone 5 and a cheaper iPhone 4 version, it is also said that the company will a releasing a 3G-enabled iPod Touch.

It is then claimed that the iPhone 5 will be released a week after the big reveal, which is October 12. Apparently, the date is just a few days earlier with what Stephane Richard, CEO of French mobile carrier — Orange, recently announced the handset would be available. It is also alleged that the new handset will feature a slightly larger display and a slimmer chassis. The cheaper iPhone 4 is rumored to be available to the consumers as well.

While the rumors surrounding iPhone 5 suggested that it will be a totally different device, people won’t be able to know until it is revealed by Apple. That said, do you think October 5 makes sense for an iPhone 5 announcement?

Case-Mate: Accidentally Leaks iPhone 5 Design?

Written on September 16, 2011 by Adam Eve

Case-Mate is believed to leak the iPhone 5 design unintentionally with its now-gone products page.

Even before news sites were able to post the most recent buzz, Case-Mate pulled its web page which is said to showcase a number of iPhone 5 cases.

Replaced with a landing page, the now-removed product content looked like renders anyway. However, they were probably based on partly known specs. Thus, the cases offered styling cues that were taken from the iPad 2 and iPod Touch with a tapered back and thinner casing. Case-Mate’s removal of the product page suggests that it wasn’t posted intentionally, although it could be a ploy to get people to their landing page.

Apple is reported to announce the next iPhone in the coming weeks, while Case-Mate’s images were just the latest in the series of leaks concerning the next handset.

Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 arrives to compete against iPod Touch, as it slips out at IFA.

Hidden in the middle of Samsung’s large launches at the IFA show on Thursday was a new, smaller version of its Android-based media players. The Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 has a more moderate 3.65-inch LCD, facing against the large AMOLED displays of its Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0. The device’s central home button style – that was unique in Android-based devices – continues over from their earlier model to its latest. This gives the devices an appearance similar to the iPod touch.

Android 2.3 runs with TouchWiz, reflecting the absence of phone components. Players carry either 8GB or 16GB built-in and have microSDHC slots. Europe should get the Wi-Fi 3.6 in October at prices equivalent to $242 for an 8GB model and $274 for 16GB.

Check out Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6’s features after the jump.

Written on August 12, 2011 by Adam Eve

Apple is rumored to release three new devices this fall: The iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, iPod Touch White, and iPad Pro.

While many refers to Apple’s next gen iPhone as iPhone 5, others indicated that it will have another name. In fact there are rumors that it’ll be iPhone 4S or iPhone 4Gs. In addition to this, the rumored iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S is said to be the biggest release of the fall. However, it seems that the coming season will bring much more than a new mobile phone.

The Cupertino-based company will allegedly launch three new devices this fall: The iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, the iPod Touch White and the iPad Pro. The information comes from an anonymous resource person, who seems to have heard the news from Apple’s top distributor in China. The unnamed resource person leaked the information to iPhone5NewsBlog through an email, saying, “Heard from one of distributors today, they are quite confirmed that Apple will announce iPhone 4Gs, iPod Touch white, and iPad Pro next month. Take it as a reference. I think they should be reliable.”

However, the resource person admitted that it’s just a rumor. Hence, people must take this as a grain of salt. But if these rumors are proven to be true, then fall would be a full season for Apple.

Apple “Leaks” iPod Touch with 3G Images

Written on July 28, 2011 by Adam Eve

Oh no! Apple accidentally leaked an image of iPod Touch with 3G capabilities.

Last Wednesday morning, iDownloadBlog noticed that Apple accidentally loaded a promo shot of an iPod Touch with 3G capabilities on the iTunes website. However, the image was immediately yanked off the iTunes website in North America, while the UK site still displays the accidental leak.

While the only thing missing in the image is the wireless carrier icon, it was followed by rumors that the next iPod Touch will have 3G capabilities. Furthermore, it was also speculated that Apple won’t release an iPod Nano, and would equip the iPod Touch with FaceTime and iMessage over 3G capabilities instead. That said, the rumored next-gen iPod Touch might require a data plan similar to iPad 2.

But since this is just a rumor, tech enthusiasts must take this as a grain of salt. Everything will remain as speculations, unless Apple officially announces the device in September.
