The Beatles Racks Up Music Sales

Music companies should thank Beatles for their great music.

Nielsen Soundscan, the information system that gathers track sales of music in the US and Canada, mentioned that music sales in the United States increased by 1.6 percent until the first week of May. The increase can be attributed mostly to sales made to digital retailers.

Nielsen did not specify which album pulled the stats of music sales up, but it was obvious that The Beatles made it happen because the increase also took place in November—the same time The Beatles landed on iTunes.

The appearance of the Beatles’ catalog on iTunes came November 16 after a load of drama and issues. Apple, Apple Corps and EMI agreed to a term that is valid until sometime this year.
