Google's answer to Apple's voice-recognition assistant Siri is codenamed 'Majel' and is said to launch before the end of the year.

Google is reportedly working on an answer to Apple’s Siri, the project codenamed ‘Majel’ is named after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and best known as the voice of the USS Enterprise’s computer.

The project which is currently in the works is an improved follow up to Voice Action, Google’s voice-recognition assistant that relies on preset voice commands.

While no official release date has been given, Google is said to be working around the clock to finish and launch the project before the end of the year.
