It’s that time of the season again for AMD to sneak in another refresh to its graphic card lineup, as they unveil the Radeon HD 6790 which will break into the market this coming spring. And although the middle-ranged card retails at $149, reviewers across cyberspace are aching for more.

The AMD Radeon HD 6790 is equipped with a graphics and shader clock speed of 840MHz, along with 1GB of GDDR5 and a data rate of 4.2GHz. Apparently, AMD is not aiming to contend this one with its single-GPU flagship – HD 6970 – and, according to reviewers, it seems it can even stand on its own when pitted against the HD 6850.

Reviewers agreed that it’s a delayed answer to NVIDIA’s already aging GTX 460. Though the HD 6790 may pick up some momentum as the GTX 460 makes an exit for the less powerful GTX 550 Ti. The AMD card may prove to be a better choice when pitted against the newer NVIDIA card.

Hit the break to see the comparison chart of the Radeon HD 6790 against other available mid-range cards.
