Sony Will Phase out Alpha A850, A290 and A390

After the the launch of Sony's newest NEX line, the NEX-C3 and Alpha 35 cameras, Sony declared that they will cease the production of Alpha A850,A290 and A390 cameras.

While the limelight is on Sony’s new NEX-C3 and Alpha 35 camera, another news from the company arose. Sony cancelled its Alpha A850, A290 and A390. A year after the release of the three lines, the full frame Alpha 850 DSLR is now due to be phased out this summer, while the Alpha 290 and 390 DSLRs have already had their production stopped.

Sony will stop the production of the Alpha 850 by August as the camera is to close in specification and pricing to Alpha 900. The company also announced that the 14.2 megapixel entry level Alpha 290 and 390, released only last June, are being phased out and are no longer available in production.

Sony Updates the NEX Line with NEX-C3 and Alpha A35 Cameras

Sony announces their updates of the NEX line with NEX-C3 and Alpha A35.

Many had been waiting for the Sony to update its NEX line of digital cameras, following the NEX-3 discontinuation earlier this year. And it appears like a worthy successor has finally arrived.

Announced today, NEX-C3 seems identical to the model leaked last April, and it uses the same APS-C format of its predecessor. It has a knocking resolution of 16.2 megapixels in a camera body smaller than the NEX-5. According to Sony, the entry-level camera is designed to fill the gap between point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras. It is the smallest body to have an APS-C sensor, DSLR-level image quality — which is the same 16.2 MP chip enclosed with the new full size, Alpha A35.
