Nintendo 3DS Dominate Hardware Sales, 3DS Games…Not So Much

Written on March 03, 2011 by Kristoff Jones

And Japan goes wild with the Nintendo 3DS but 3DS games miss the mark in the sales chart.

No surprise here. With a year worth of hype, speculation, excitement and hysteria, Japan didn’t fail to please the Nintendo executives as the Nintendo 3DS console dominated the sales chart; and it only needed two days to do so. The Nintendo 3DS has sold 374,764 units throughout the week which is expected for a highly marketed and ground-breaking item.

3DS games on the other hand did well too. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to bank the 1st or even the 2nd spot as the 3DS game Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask only mustered a 3rd place finish below PSP entries Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and SD Gundam G Generation World. The Professor Layton game banked an impressive 119,591 sales, while other 3DS titles also managed to enter the Top 10 chart.

Will old PSP UMD titles see the light of day again once the Sony NGP comes around?

Sony has announced that it’s currently working with developers and publishers to release past UMD games on the PlayStation Store. Such a move would allow players to play PlayStation Portable titles to other consoles, such as the Sony NGP. Although the company has admitted that not all UMD titles may not be permitted for a re-release due to copyright issues.

Secret of Mana Out, Final Fantasy Tactics Delayed

Written on December 21, 2010 by Kristoff Jones

It's one step forward and another step back as SquareEnix's iPhone game releases took a surprising plot twist.

Secret of Mana is now available for the iPhone, which certainly made the fans holler with joy. It’s certainly a nice rebound after Square Enix made a tough and disappointing announcement that Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions release date for the iPhone has been delayed to Spring 2011.

Yes, you heard that right. Sad but true story, SquareEnix announced the devastating news over FFTL:WoL official Facebook page. Apparently, the game needs more time to fine-tune it’s UI and playability, something that has been haunting Final Fantasy XIV ever since day 1.

On the bright side, Secret of Mana can now be bought from the AppStore and it’s enough to feed our hunger for some sweet classic Japanese RPG.

Secret of Mana is the sequel to Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy and the second installment in the Mana video game series.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is a tactical role-playing game developed by Square Enix for the Playstation Portable. The game is an updated version of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PlayStation video game console.

It's been leaked over at Jump Fiesta, but now it's official. Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy is set to be out on March 3, 2011 as the developers made the announcement today.

Yes ladies and gents of the video game world, less than 3 months from now we’ll be having the prequel/sequel of the highly anticipated, semi-fan serviced, crossover fighting game in our grasps. That means 3 months to go before Laguna Loire, Tifa Lockheart, Vann, and Lightning join the roster of our beloved Square Enix franchise.

No official word yet if the release date includes the Cosmos and Chaos limited edition PSP bundles. The game is priced at ¥6,090 and a downloadable version will be released simultaneously, priced ¥4,980.

No announcements have been made yet regarding its NA release, but we expect it to come around the following year.
